I used more zip ties to get them to stay, so we will see how that holds up.Īll in all the job took about 8 hours, including cleanup and sourcing to more bolts to hold the valve body up (there were two missing from the last guy). I then proceeded to break ALL the rest of the clips off while disconnecting the harness. They had secured the harness to the solenoid with a zip tie. It looked like someone had been in there before, and broke one of the clips that hold the harness to a solenoid off. I did have an issue with the wiring harness. Drilling holes in the separator plate was a little scary, but I managed. The instructions are pretty easy to follow, but you should still read them beforehand to get an idea of what to expect. I did manage to get a drop of old fluid in my eye, and in my mouth. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures while I was doing the job - being covered in old, burnt, trans fluid kind of prevented that.

One of the things I did to get ready for this kit was to watch this video:Įven though it's not specifically about this kit or this vehicle, it helped me to get familiar with some common practices on how to properly disassemble the trans and what to expect. My truck was throwing the P1870 code, and I had done a little research that led me to believe this kit would at least help if not fix this problem. My $1300 truck was slipping in the 1-2 shift, and torque converter lockup was iffy.
I am mechanically inclined however, and I have a decent set of tools. I know there are a bunch of threads about this kit, but I thought I would share my experience.Ī little background: I have no previous experience with working on an automatic trans.
